What is Rooting?

In Simple Words,

Rooting is a process that allows you to attain root access to the Android operating system code (same term for Apple devices id Jailbreaking).

With the help of rooting your Android Device you will be able to customize your device as much as you can as compared to Normal Users, your phone will become SuperPhone, you will have full power to control or customize your Android Device….

You can change Android Version,Model No.,Device ID,extend battery life etc,and also rooting gives the ability (or permission) to alter or replace system applications and settings, run specialized applications(“apps”) that require administrator-level permissions, or perform other operations that are otherwise inaccessible to a normal Android user. On Android, rooting can also facilitate the complete removal and replacement of the device’s operating system, usually with a more recent release of its current operating system.

Rooting mainly gives you privileges to modify the software code on the device or install other software that the manufacturer wouldn’t normally allow you to. And for good mobile security reasons: they don’t want users to make modifications to the phones that could result in accidents beyond repair; it is easier for them to offer support if they allow users to only use the same unmodified version of the software,

Many of the android developers already developed rooting methods, which vary with different phones as well as different Android Versions, all the rooting methods for different roms are available on Internet, and more and more Android users are resorting to them because of the powerful perks they provide, such as:-

Advantages of Rooting

  • Change startup Logo and Boot Animation..
  • flash custom roms, one of the best custom is Cynogen Mod(CM) Rom
  • full customization for just about every theme/graphic
  • download of any app, regardless of the app store they’re posted on
  • extended battery life and added performance
  • updates to the latest version of Android if your device is outdated and no longer updated by the manufacturer
  • you can also Remove/Uninstall system apps(called bloatwares) like FM Radio,Google Maps,System Launcher..
  • Run Special apps which won’t runs on Normal Users(Unrooted) Phones.
  • Freeing up your memory, which means that your can move your installed apps to your SDcard, and many more…

Warning:- But if you do it improperly, it may brick(dead) your phone. And even done properly, if your phone doesn’t have proper antivirus protection for Android, rooting leaves your device open to all sorts of malware.

Caution:-

Now, say all these advantages have convinced you to root your Android device. But you can do it at your own expense, risking your own mobile security. Here’s why:-

Disadvantages of Rooting

There are two main disadvantages to rooting and Android phone;

  1. Rooting immediately voids your phone’s warranty– Once rooted, most phones cannot be serviced under warranty but many chinese phones can survived warranty by unrooting it,
  2. Rooting involves the risk of “bricking” your phone- In essence, a “bricked or dead” phone is no better than carrying around a brick in your pocket. The phone is dead when it has been “bricked.” Combine that with the first disadvantage, and you have a now-useless phone that will not be repaired under warranty.

So do at your own risk, tiny mistakes may lead to your mobile dead/brick,So if you want to root your phone do several researches from different forums, mainly from xda developers website and then root carefully.
